In each class, we practice refining our state of mind and our habits while working through physical postures that can challenge us on multiple levels. We continually go back to the power of breath awareness and to the grand purpose of yoga - elevating our consciousness and reconnecting to the unchanging, empowered, loving, whole Self. Props like blocks, blankets, and straps are encouraged!
Shiva Deep®
Classes offer students the chance to increase flexibility by releasing muscular tension and tension in related connective tissues. These classes are suitable for all levels and provide students with the opportunity for a deep stretch with long holds in only a few poses. Setting intentions and practicing gratitude, students move through a short warmup and then practice a deep stretch sequence. Long holds allow for a deep release of muscular tension and tension in the related connective tissues and encourage the relaxation response. Students practice going into the fire, staying present, and letting go of the distractions of the mind. This class concludes with a final rest and seated meditation.
Shiva Rest®
Students experience a full-length guided Yoga Nidra meditation practice. Yoga Nidra is sometimes referred to as psychic sleep or deep relaxation with inner awareness. It is a powerful technique where we learn to relax consciously while sitting upright or lying in a comfortable resting position. We practice a systematic method of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation, learning to let go of the outer world and the body, and turn inward, and ultimately to let go of the mind and experience a deeper connection to the true nature of the Self. This class is suitable for all levels for anyone who is looking to reduce stress, promote healing, find more rest and relaxation, and for those who want to experience a deeper state of Being and Awareness.
Gentle Yoga (for private sessions)
When a part of us - our physical body, mental state, emotional well-being, etc - is experiencing pain, weakness, or stiffness, we can benefit from a softer practice. Activation of breath and secure alignment are emphasized for safety and for fostering greater awareness. We explore adaptations of many poses that may be more demanding in their traditional forms. With the support of props, slow transitions, and more opportunities for rest, we maintain a clear path to the highest intention of yoga - feeling better and reconnecting to our true nature.
